On October 18, 2025, Shillong’s State Central Library was buzzing with an incredible energy as thousands gathered for the Red Ribbon Youth Festival 2025. The event, a vibrant blend of fun, creativity, and social awareness, aimed to “Break the Silence, End the Stigma” surrounding HIV/AIDS. The day was packed with activities ranging from a marathon and cosplay competition to dance battles and live music, all organized by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) in collaboration with the Shillong Cosplay Community.

The festival offered a wide array of events, ensuring there was something for everyone:

Running for a Cause
The day kicked off early with the Red Ribbon Marathon, which saw enthusiastic participation from children, youth, and adults in both 10K and 5K categories. The marathon was flagged off by esteemed dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Health & Sports Minister Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla, Dr. K. Lucia Iawbor, Project Director of MACS, and Dr. W.B. Langstieh, Former Project Director of MACS. Later in the day, the winners of the marathon were honored by these same dignitaries, who praised the participants for their role in promoting awareness and unity.
Cosplay with a Conscience
A major highlight of the festival was the “Cosplay for a Cause” competition, which invited participants to dress up as their favorite characters to inspire and make a difference. The event was designed to be inclusive and stress-free, with no prior registration or performance required. Cosplayers simply had to “suit up and show up,” creating a welcoming atmosphere for all. The Shillong Cosplay Community also delivered special performances, adding to the excitement of the day.
Fun, Food, and Festivities
Beyond the marathon and cosplay, the festival was filled with other engaging activities. The “Yummy Noodle Eating Competition,” held in collaboration with Yummy Noodle, brought a flavorful and fun twist to the event. Meanwhile, the dance battle saw participants of all ages take to the stage, showcasing their talent and passion. These events, along with live bands and rap battles, demonstrated that raising awareness can be an enjoyable and engaging experience for everyone involved.
The Red Ribbon Youth Festival 2025 was a resounding success, bringing the community together for a day of fun, creativity, and purpose. It was a powerful reminder that every step, every performance, and every voice counts in the journey to create a healthier and more informed tomorrow.
